                  The Grace O Malley Retreat.

The historical story behind Grace O’Malley is a powerful one.
Pirate Queen, a brave crusader and original feminist hero, Gráinne Ní Mháille (Grace O’Malley in Gaelic), sneered in the face of tradition and took to the seas where her fierce nature defied the unforgiving depths of the Atlantic.

We will follow Grace’s story around the west of Ireland, ending our week in Dublin, the nation's Capital.

This yoga& hiking retreat is designed for those looking for the perfect mix of wellness and recreation to enjoy and take care of themselves. If you need a change of scenery or a break from a stress-filled situation, this retreat is the ideal place to go. There's no hardcore program of fasting and strenuous exercise but rather a program aimed at helping you re-balance your work-life situation by meditating, getting some exercise, relaxing, sightseeing, and having some fun along the way.

Three nights in Sligo, two on Clare Island, one night is Mayo and the last night in Dublin.

Temple house will be our home for the first three nights.
A classical Georgian manor set on a private estate of over 1,000 acres. This luxury country house in County Sligo, Ireland is overlooking a 13th-century lakeside castle of the Knights Templar. The Perceval family home since 1665, the present manor was redesigned in 1864 and enjoys the authentic and unpretentious luxury country house.
Our days will be framed with a yoga class followed by breakfast.
Our afternoons are spent discovering this beautiful part of the west of Ireland.

On a clear day, the burial Karn of Queen Maeve is visible from the grounds of Temple house.
Queen Maeve’s trail is a sacred, magical place in County Sligo.
A special place made sacred by our stone-age ancestors and mythologized by their Iron age descendants - and by a modern poet.

The beauty and mythology associated with the Sligo landscape were the great inspiration for Nobel Prize-winning poet W.B. Yeats. As a dominant regional landmark, Knocknarea is particularly prominent in his work, being featured in a total of seven poems.

“The wind has bundled up the clouds high over Knocknarea and thrown the thunder on the stones for all that Maeve can say.” - W.B. Yeats

As our travels are along the Wild Atlantic Way, we would be remiss not to spend some time at the beach.
A luxurious steaming bath of fresh seawater and wild organic seaweed will follow our  hike to Knocknarae

Seaweed baths have been a tradition in Ireland for hundreds of years and Ireland’s only indigenous spa therapy.

An Irish seaweed bath is known as a detox for the soul.

Departing Temple house we head to  Clare Island the birthplace of
Grace O Malley

    Clare Island.
Clare Island is a mountainous island guarding the entrance to Clew Bay in County Mayo, Ireland. It is famous as the home of the 15th-century pirate queen Gráinne O'Malley. The  Island is located 3.5 miles off the west coast of County Mayo, Ireland. The ferry crossing from Roonagh Pier takes approximately 25 minutes and there is every chance that you will be accompanied on your journey by a school of dolphins.
Clare Island is the largest (5 miles long and 3 miles wide) of the 365 islands in Clew Bay. Famous as the ancestral
home of the legendary Pirate Queen Grace O’Malley (Granuaile), the island has a population of about 160 people; economic activities include farming, fishing, and tourism with numerous other small businesses also supporting a vibrant community.

"Who thinketh herself no small lady"
- Sir Nicholas Malby on meeting Grace O'Malley.

Westport Mayo~ Anam Croi retreat house.

Our Yoga Room is perfectly situated to the south side of the house and overlooks a superb view of Ireland’s Holy Mountain, Croagh Patrick.  The room is purposely designed for yoga and meditation and has very large windows and 2 sliding doors at each end, allowing lots of fresh air to circulate when required.
A sound healing followed by a sauna and ice bath for those that  wish to partake are scheduled.
                                                                                                                           Dublin City
Dublin is a thriving cultural center and boasts a great literary legacy with many luminaries of Irish literature such as Joyce, Shaw, Yeats, Wilde, Kavanagh, and Beckett, being associated with the city.
Dublin is where you'll find many of the nation's treasures, housed in the city's galleries and museums, and is where some of the most important events of Ireland were played out, most notably the Easter Uprising of 1916. Though the battle between the IRA and British Forces caused extensive damage to the O'Connell Street area of Dublin, (the bullet holes can still be seen on the General Post Office) this was one of the formative events of the Irish Republic.
Ending our week in Dublin the afternoon is yours to explore, meeting with Caroline for dinner and farewell hugs!
